From one Republican Governor to another ...
The Sanford saga has proven to be a bottomless pit of revelations and confrontations. This week saw Governor Sanford losing even more ground with his party, starting with a letter from House Speaker Bobby Harrell calling for his resignation, followed by a nearly-unanimous statement from House Republicans which has called for him to resign.
We've been told that in the morning, the SCGOP Executive Committee will hold a teleconference to discuss issuing their own call for Sanford to leave.
At this point, we don't think there's anyone left in this state who thinks Sanford should stick around. If there is, we'd love to know who they are.
In the best interests of the state, we'd encourage the Governor to consider some advice from a fellow Republican governor:

The Governor and his supporters will try to argue that what is best for South Carolina is for him to remain in office. The counter to that claim is that now not only does he not have the support of the Legislature or his party, the Governor has lost the support of a majority of the people of this state and therefore he no longer represents the will or the voice of this state.
If Sanford does not resign then the leadership in the Legislature has no choice but to move to a special session. A special session that will cost this state several million dollars that is does not have at this time.
For a governor who has called for financial prudence, Sanford now finds himself in a situation where his actions alone are about to cost this state millions it does not have to spend. This Governor is putting his own personal and political ego and agenda in front of the needs, the desires, the will and the rights of the people of South Carolina.
At the end of day there can only be one outcome. Sanford must resign or face forced removal from office. His decision (and it will be his alone) will show if he truly has had to best interest of the people of SC in mind or if has always been about him and his own personal and political ego and agenda...teg
I will bet that Earl has done more for economic development than Mark Sanford. When I take a dump at a rest area I'm doing more to create jobs than Sanford is.
Hurray Earl!
I suspect what may come of forcing him out will air laundry that makes Reagan's 11th commandment shudder and gives Pravda on the Congaree a bit longer life reproting on the red state tom foolery that went for Goldwater in '64 and rolled Reagan and the Bushes into DC.
